Gas and Solid Fuel Appliances
If you rent a home from Spire Homes we undertake a gas or solid
fuel service on your property every year. We will write to you when
your service is due to make an appointment. This will be
approximately 60 days before the safety certificate
expires. You must make arrangements to let our engineer in to
carry out the service. If you don't, we will, if necessary,
get a court injunction and you will be charged the
cost of this. Once we have finished the service,
the certificate will be posted out to you within 28 days.
We check the gas appliances in a property every time it is let
to a new tenant. We give the new tenant a copy of the gas service
certificate.
Gas leaks should be reported at once to the National Grid on
0800 111 999.
If you think there is a gas leak in your home (or nearby) contact
the National Grid immediately on 0800 111 999.
In the meantime:
- DO NOT turn any electrical switches or sockets
on or off
- DO NOT smoke or strike matches
- DO turn off the gas at the meter
- DO open the windows and doors to let the gas
out
- DO put out any naked flames
- DO keep people aware of the affected area
- DO get in touch with the National Grid
immediately on 0800 111 999.
