Spire Homes are Decent
Homes – Ahead of the Government
deadline
Spire Homes are well ahead of schedule to meet
the Government’s Decent Homes standard. At the end of March,
100% of their homes throughout East Northamptonshire have achieved
this standard – 9 months ahead of the Government deadline of
December 2010.
The Government has set the Decent Homes
standard and all social housing landlords are expected to meet this
by December 2010. Spire tailored their improvements programme to
target those areas that were failing to ensure these were met -
this means Spire’s tenants have warm, safe and comfortable homes
and have reductions in fuel bills because of, for example, an
increase in insulation, better windows, roofs and doors.
Surveys were carried out on homes and tenants were involved in
shaping the improvement programmes to target areas of
priority.
Spire Homes continually monitor their homes
and devise improvement programmes to ensure that as a minimum, they
maintain” Decent Homes” in the future.
Jody Sanderson, Property Services Team Leader,
said, “We continuously monitored our decent homes position to
ensure that our own target of 10th April was met. This
is a brilliant achievement, because having decent homes is a key
element of any thriving, sustainable community and is important for
the health and wellbeing of tenants.”
