Spire gets the big Green Apple

Spire Homes have been awarded with the Green Apple Award for Environmental Best Practice for their homes at Seaton Road in Uppingham.

The Green Apple Awards are held by The Green Organisation, which is an independent environment group dedicated to recognising, rewarding and promoting environmental best practice around the world.

The development, which consists of 42 homes for rent and shared ownership, has provided much needed affordable housing to people with a local connection to Uppingham. The properties are built in keeping with the rural environment, and have timber windows and slate effect roofs, and a play area. All of the homes are well insulated and have water butts; with 32 homes having solar panels which help the environment and also help reduce household bills.

Bill, Angela and Holly who live at Seaton Road, said “It’s great benefiting from having solar panels, highly insulated walls, roof and floors. Thanks to the solar panels, we only have to heat the water for less than half the year which saves us a lot of money on our gas bills”

Cathy Sellars, Project Manager, said “I am delighted that we have received national recognition for the environmental accomplishments on the Seaton Road Uppingham scheme. It is a fantastic achievement for Spire Homes and it demonstrates our commitment to environmental best practice”
