Over quarter million spent on improving local sheltered
scheme
Spire Homes and Wellingborough Homes’ tenants joined forces on
8th June to celebrate the National Housing Federation’s
Supported Housing month and the grand opening of Spire’s newly
refurbished scheme, Cordwainers in Rushden.
Other guests who joined the celebrations
included the Mayor of Rushden Town Council, Spire’s chair John
Farrar, and Doreen Love who has lived at Cordwainers for 27
years.

Over £260,000 has been spent on the
refurbishment, including new carpets, decorations, chairs and a new
lift; laundry room; fully fitted kitchen; and an activities room
where tenants can get creative or take part in different
activities.
Doreen, 87 years, commenting on the
refurbishment said, “The improvements are lovely – I have
always enjoyed helping when I can, and the new facilities and
activity room is a great chance for us to do even more! It is a
great way to socialise with other tenants at
Cordwainers.”
